Each month, the Idler magazine brings together a great collection of writers, speakers and musicians for an evening of fun and feasting at the wonderful Coin Laundry on Exmouth Market. Editor Tom Hodgkinson and Idler Academy director Victoria Hull will be your hosts. The ticket includes dinner and a glass of wine or craft ale.
This month we welcome two writers whose books are set to brighten us up in the dark months. Best selling author Rachel Kelly’s inspirational workbook, Singing in the Rain is published this January. In it she describes a practical exercise for each week of the year that is bound to cheer you up – from climbing a tree to facing a fear. Rachel’s fear was public speaking so in her short speech to us idlers – admittedly a friendly group – she’ll be proving her point. There will be plenty of chance to ask her questions.
A few years ago writer, journalist and broadcaster Kamin Mohammadi fled London for Florence in desperate need of a change, and found herself transformed by the power of the Italian way of living, the Bella Figura. She’ll be giving us her top tips on how to live, love and eat like an Italian. ‘Come and find your inner Sophia Loren,’ she says.
The dinner will be held at Coin Laundry on Exmouth Market with its superb modern English menu sourced from small local suppliers. There’s been a venue on this corner since the thirteenth century serving local spa waters before it became a pub, and now it has been stylishly brought up to date as a restaurant and bar.
