Find your voice!
Become a more effective live communicator!
Engage others with your ideas!
This programme is ideal for anyone who wants to improve their public speaking and presentation skills, as well as those who have attended our Idler Public Speaking Course 1
Whether speaking at an event, delivering a presentation, facilitating a meeting or performing at a family or social occasion this course will help you find and project your voice, prepare and structure what you want to say, and learn and apply rhetorical techniques used by experts.
As a result you will develop the confidence to relax and be yourself. Through your passion, and your empathy people will want to listen to you and what you have to say. And you will increasingly enjoy the experience of speaking and being heard
This course is run for small groups only so that each participant can gain the most benefit, and the content be customised to individual needs. Topics we cover will include:
You: where are you comfortable -or uncomfortable? where do you want to improve?
Your story: discover your authentic persona: develop your ethos
Your presence: it ain’t what you say, it’s the way that you say it
Your voice: find it, project it, play it like an instrument
Your nerves: turn them into positive energy
Your stage: an event? a presentation? a pitch? a fundraiser? a family occasion?
Your audience: who are they? what do you want them to think, feel, do?
Your empathy: how will you engage and win their hearts as well as their minds
Your structure: tips and techniques to plan a successful speech
Your eloquence: applying the skills of rhetoric to your performance
Your benchmarks: Cicero, Shakespeare, Obama, Boris, TED…
Your reward: Breathe easy! Enjoy the applause! Be invited back!
Whether you need to improve your speaking for professional reasons, engage supporters on behalf of a charity, or are faced with speaking at social events, this workshop will help you overcome your nerves, grow in confidence and enjoy engaging your audience.
This event follows the success and feedback from The Idler Academy Public Speaking course 1, with David Butter, also available this autumn on Wednesdays 2nd and 16th November here.

This event follows excellent feedback from David Butter’s previous Public Speaking programmes: “Each of the students improved dramatically! You took us on a confidence boosting personal journey as well as giving us the practical training for this professional skill. The course was perfectly structured. The notes gave confidence. We had all the materials we needed to structure and learn to practise our own speeches, and we will be able to refer to them from now on whenever we need to speak publicly.”.
