This is the second of four classes in idling and freedom with author Tom Hodgkinson. Each is based on one of his books, and during the symposia, where the wine will flow, we will discuss the important philosophical idea: how to live. Tom will bring his reading and experience to bear on the problems we face today, the problem of living well in a society over-obsessed with work and money.
This second symposium will move on to the very practical ideas contained for liberation in Tom’s second book, How to be Free, which the Sunday Times called ‘a happy pill in book form’. We will look at the historical events which led to the sea-change in attitudes to life which we call the Reformation. We will discuss both the problems that contemporary society hurls at us, and how to overcome those problems, as we search for liberty, both on a personal and on a social level. Free spirits and those aspiring to be free spirits will find much nourishment here.
Tom Hodgkinson is editor of the Idler and author of four books for Penguin. His books have been published all over the world. Most recently he founded the Idler Academy with his partner Victoria Hull. He is someone, said the Mail on Sunday, ‘who has made up his mind about the existence he wants to lead, and has gone ahead and lived it.’
