With fantastic timing – just missing the Christmas post – our new t-shirts have arrived. The pink Lady Of Leisure t-shirts are available in girls’ size medium and large. The New Big Snail t-shits are available in men’s sizes medium and large and in green or black. Order now and get them some time in January, depending on when we manage to brave the cold and get down to the post office. Fifteen quid a go.
Thanks to everyone who came along and sang and danced at last Friday’s talk. A fine time was had by all and a merry one. Earlier in the day we dispensed 1,000 copies of Idler 35 to the people of E1 and most of them seemed to appreciate the gift, although some round Liverpool Street rushed past and one or two even snarled.
We will be doing another giveaway soon. And for those who didn’t get their free Idler, we shall be giving them away to anyone who writes in to the website – all you will have to do is pay the two quid postage and packing. Keep an eye on the site in early January for more details.
Merry Christmas.
After the charity work, the merry-making. Come to E1’s fabulous Duke of Uke ukulele emporium on Friday 15 December at 6pm. Idler editor Tom Hodgkinson will be giving a talk entitled “The Importance of Being Merry: Freedom and the Meaning of Christmas”. We’ll also be giving away mulled wine and mince pies and singing your favourite carols. Ukuleles and copies of Tom’s book How To be Free will be on sale.
Duke of Uke, 22 Hanbury Street, London E1. Friday 15 December. Six to eight pm. Entrance free.
As an act of Christmas goodwill and charity, representatives of the Idler magazine will be giving out free copies of Idler 35: War On Work to the poor harried workers of London this Friday, 15 December.
The Idler Salvation Army will be hanging around outside Liverpool Street Station at lunchtime. If you would like to help us give copies of the Idler to those in need, then please join us. In these dark times we all need mental sustenance.
